The
main function of the Design Engineer is to take overall responsibility
for the conceptual design, design innovation, compliance with the employer’s
requirements and final detailed designs in accordance with our subcontract
agreement with the end user/client.
There is also an overall responsibility to oversee the Junior Design
Engineers and also to manage externally commissioned design packages.
Duties
1. To be hands on in the undertaking of detailed design projects.
2. The production of concept designs for estimating purposes.
3. To adopt a highly innovative approach and provide a wide range of
design solutions.
4. The provision of technical support to the contracting and commissioning
functions.
5. The management and control of externally appointed design consultants.
6. Completion of site surveys and associated reports, as appropriate.
7. To take full responsibility for the supervision and professional
development of Junior Design Engineers.
8. The provision of advice on design fees.
9. To keep the Company fully aware of current regulations and standards,
together with future developments.

Identify client’s needs and the extent of the employer’s requirements
and ensure that they are incorporated in the design solutions.
11. Assess the Health & Safety and CDM requirements which need to be
incorporated in the design solutions.

Check layouts for the services and ensure co-ordination of routes are
sequenced.
13. Attend and actively take part in the tender/design strategy meetings.
14. Prepare design files to a laid-down standard.
15. Undertake any other duties as requested from time to time that fall
within the scope of the position.
16. Work safely in accordance with the company’s current health and
safety policy and procedures.
Skills, Knowledge and Competencies required
• Experience of a wide range of building services installation and techniques.
• Understand and interpret employer’s requirements along with technical
specifications.
• Ensure that selection of plant and materials is adequate for the proposed
systems. • Experience in computerised design software.
• Computer literacy in MS Office.
• An active approach to problem solving.
• The ability to work under pressure and to meet deadlines.
• The capability to think ahead, plan and prioritise workload.
• The ability to work under the minimum of supervision.
• Possess good communication skills and the ability to interact with
others.
