Assembly and Test Technician


Our client based in Cambridge is looking to recruit an experienced Assembly Engineer to perform specialist assembly and testing of specialist testing instruments.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities include: Contributing to a team producing and testing gravity gradiometer instruments; Providing specialist assembly and testing of product components and sub-assemblies; Developing an understanding of instruments and technologies to allow assembly and test requirements to be determined and to ensure that full capabilities of available techniques are exploited and Interacting with engineers within the company to ensure this understanding and to advise on practicable solutions to assembly and test issues and good practice.

In addition, the successful candidate will in liaison with the Project Manager, manage personal workload to ensure milestones are achieved, Report progress (and own timekeeping) against agreed timescales both for individual tasks and projects, Obtain and exploit best practice advice from appropriate internal and external sources, Initiate, lead and support appropriate process and product development projects and Establish and maintain effective working relationships throughout the business, in particular liaise with peers in similar roles to gain the benefits of common practices.

Other responsibilities will include:Work with other technicians and engineers to assist with assembly of gravity gradiometer instruments. In particular, the assembly and testing of components and sub-assemblies, including superconducting coils, transformers and heat-switches. Typically including:

Inspection of delivered components to drawings; small-scale coil-winding; sheet metal working and joining to construct magnetic and electrical shielding (including lead working); preparation and gluing of components; preparation and installation of bespoke cryostat wiring looms; testing of completed sub-assemblies (superconducting transformers, heat switches); construction of small-scale prototype and production assemblies using safe workshop techniques & tools; learning safe use of liquid helium and liquid nitrogen to facilitate testing of sub-assemblies and systems; Develop understanding of instrument and application to allow participation in sub-system testing

£22K-£28K depending on skills and relevant experience, 26 days holiday, Company Pension Scheme – company contributes 11.5%, PHI, Medical Insurance with PPP, Life Assurance, Discretionary bonus scheme and Share options
