Senior Hardware Design and Development Engineer

Our client has developed a range of hardware and software for the commercial transport sector and their current product range is proving very successful but they continually strive to improve features and reduce costs in this rapidly expanding market. A Senior Hardware Design and Development engineer is sought to start immediately to join a growing, highly skilled, development team to help them achieve its aim to become market leader within two years. The role: It is a very challenging role and one that is key to continuing success. The candidate will be responsible for creating a new family of products for the next period of the company's growth. The technical challenges are great and the development timescales are increasingly aggressive in a rapidly evolving market. The role requires a candidate with a broad and expert knowledge across a number of disciplines and technologies.

Key Responsibilities will include: Taking responsibility for developing products/platforms from both a hardware and software design perspective for use within the company and by their customers; Design and develop hardware products that meet the requirements identified by sales and marketing needs; Co-ordinate and collaborate with the software development team to ensure our software and hardware designs are fit for purpose; Complete designs to the point of total suitability for high volume manufacture and service. This involves working closely with appropriate third party manufacturers and suppliers; Help select and support our OEM manufacturing partners to ensure reliable, volume production is achieved; Work to ensure products meet the European EMC directive and other standards necessary for the effective marketing of its products.

The successful applicant must be able to demonstrate capabilities in most of the following technical areas: In-depth engineering experience within a product development environment; System level design knowledge of embedded software principles and practices; Hardware design experience of advanced processors/DSPs/FPGAs.; Expert in using Orcad schematic capture software; Good working knowledge of VERILOG/VHDL, Visual Basic, Matlab and C/C++; Experience designing platforms using Xscale/ARM cores and common 8/16 bit microcontrollers; Experience designing platforms for Windows CE/Mobile operating systems; Digital signal processing; Combining analogue and digital electronics; Excellent board level circuit design for mixed RF, analogue and digital designs; Strong working experience of wireless communication technologies and techniques; Strong working experience of GPS technologies and techniques; Strong practical experience of designing for EMC/manufacture; Management of CAD PCB layout and manufacturing processes; Management and specification OEM manufacturing and test processes; Use of the standard MS Office tools and packages.

Candidate Qualities. Qualified with a 1st/2.1 Honours Degree from a good engineering university; A second Masters Degree in a relevant field would be beneficial; Have outstanding technical capabilities and a proven track record of product development; Creative but pragmatic and self-critical; A good communicator with teams and with clients in both technical and business development roles; Show strong technical leadership and have good project management skills; Have enthusiasm and determination.
